Scholars Program II: Music

Music Scholars: We are pleased to have the opportunity to support and foster the remarkable talents of a 4th grader at Spring Hill Elementary School, Jillian Khoo. Jillian has performed at the SAGWA Shenendoah Celebration and numerous local camp and festival recitals. Through the support of the Scholars Program, she has extended her current specialized weekly violin lessons with June Huang, and has added monthly master classes with Jenny Baker. With the help of the Foundation, Jillian attended Suzuki music camp at Ithaca College last summer. We look forward to Jillian’s continued blossoming as a moving and inspirational musician.

Jillian will be taking masters classes with Jenny Oaks Baker, one of America's most accomplished classical violinists. Ms. Baker began playing the violin at age four, and made her solo debut when she was only eight years old. Since then, she has thrilled audiences worldwide with performances equally powerful in emotion and mastery. In 1999, Ms. Baker made her Carnegie Hall debut as a featured soloist in the Easter Festival Concert. She also performed as a soloist in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and in the Coolidge Auditorium at the Library of Congress. In 2005, Ms. Baker soloed with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center under the direction of Marvin Hamlisch. Ms. Baker has been featured in television and radio broadcasts nationwide, and she served as a judge for the 2007 Stradivarius International Violin Competition.
